On the evening of September 9, 2026, Karthi’s Tamil spy thriller "Sardar 2" began its overseas premiere in the United States, giving American audiences a chance to see the sequel a day before its theatrical release in India on September 10. The early screenings, which coincided with the early hours of September 10 in India (around 4 AM IST), sparked a flurry of reactions on social media, especially on X (formerly Twitter).
The film, directed by P. S. Mithran, continues the story established in the 2022 hit “Sardar.” Karthi returns in a dual role, while Rajisha Vijayan reprises her character from the first film. New additions to the cast include S. J. Suryah, Malavika Mohanan, Ashika Ranganath, and Yogi Babu. The production is a joint effort by Prince Pictures and IVY Entertainment.
Mithran is credited with the story and characters, with the screenplay written by Nambi and additional story contributions from Rathna Kumar, Ashameera Aiyappan, and Vignesh Muniyandi. Cinematography is handled by George C. Williams, editing by Vijay Velukutty, and the music and background score are composed by Sam C. S., marking his 100th film as a composer. Other musical contributions come from OfRo.
The technical team features production designer Rajeevan Nambiar, stunt coordinators Dhilip Subbarayan and Chethan D’Souza, and sound designer Tapas Nayak. Visual effects were provided by Mind Stein Studios and Dheera Studios.
While the early U.S. screenings have generated buzz, the reactions shared online represent only a limited sample of viewers and should not be taken as a definitive assessment of the film’s overall reception. A broader picture will emerge once the movie reaches a larger audience during its full theatrical run in India and across other international markets.
