Cinema VinesKunal Kemmu has confirmed that his upcoming spy‑comedy Vibe is not a spoof or parody of recent Bollywood thrillers, despite early rumours sparked by the teaser’s playful references to Pathaan and Tiger. The actor‑director explained that the dialogue was simply a nod to the most popular pop‑culture icons in the spy genre, rather than a satire of any particular film.
In an interview with PTI, Kemmu said the story had been with him long before he became a director and that he had shared it with friends, but did not write it until he was sure it would be made. He clarified that the mention of Pathaan and Tiger was meant to illustrate how a “normal man” would react if he were suddenly thrust into a high‑stakes mission. “It’s not taking a swing at anybody,” he added, stressing that the film’s premise is logical and not farcical, even if it is over‑the‑top in its execution.
Vibe follows Kunal and his friend Sparsh Shrivastava as two untrained civilians caught up in a spy operation. The teaser shows the duo questioning the Indian spy agency for involving them when the agency already has “Pathaan and Tiger” at its disposal. The film also stars Preity Zinta, Vanshika Dhir, Dinesh Lal Yadav and Yashpal Sharma, and is produced by Kunal Kemmu and Chirag Nihalani under Drongo Films in association with Amazon MGM Studios.
Set to hit cinemas on September 18, Vibe promises a blend of humor and action that stays true to its premise. Kemmu’s clarification comes after the success of Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan (2023) and Salman Khan’s Tiger in the YRF Spy Universe, both of which have collectively grossed over ₹1,000 crore. The director’s statement reassures fans that while the film will reference popular spy tropes, it will not mimic or mock any existing Bollywood spy narrative.
