Karthi’s Sardaar 2 Outpaces Soori’s Mandaadi on Day One; Still a Close Race

A fierce showdown has erupted on the Tamil box office as Karthi’s spy‑action sequel Sardaar 2 goes head‑to‑head with Soori’s sports drama Mandaadi on their opening day. Both films hit screens today, sparking curiosity among audiences about which title will claim the top spot.

Directed by P. S. Mithran, Sardaar 2 is the follow‑up to the 2022 hit Sardaar and stars Karthi in a dual role. Rajisha Vijayan reprises her role from the first film, while S. J. Suryah, Malavika Mohanan and Ashika Ranganath add to the ensemble. Despite the high expectations, the film’s early numbers suggest it has fallen short of the hype. According to Sacnilk estimates, the movie has earned roughly ₹1.67 crore net in India from 2,770 shows as of 5:30 PM, with an estimated gross of about ₹1.97 crore. Morning occupancy stood at 18.31 % and afternoon at 22.15 %.

On the other side, Mandaadi was written and directed by Mathimaran Pugazhendhi and features Soori as the titular boat racer Muthukaali. The film also introduces Suhas in his Tamil debut and stars Mahima Nambiar. It has drawn decent reviews from viewers. Sacnilk reports that Mandaadi has collected around ₹1.50 crore net from 1,991 shows as of 5:30 PM, with a projected gross of about ₹1.77 crore. Morning occupancy was 22.92 % and afternoon 30.85 %.

With both movies starting their box‑office journeys on an average note, Karthi’s Sardaar 2 currently edges out Soori’s Mandaadi in the Day 1 race. However, evening and night screenings are still to come, and the final opening‑day totals could shift the balance significantly.

As the competition unfolds, cinema‑goers and industry watchers alike are keeping a close eye on the numbers to see which film will ultimately come out on top in this early box‑office duel.
