Malhotra. The event was delayed until late afternoon, which left many media members frustrated, but Chopra’s lively presence and candid remarks helped turn the evening into a memorable conversation about work and motherhood.
During the launch, Chopra addressed the industry debate on how pregnancy can affect a female actor’s career. She said, “I can’t wait to retire at 50, 60 or 70 and then get pregnant, right?” and went on to explain that every project and every individual’s situation is unique. She emphasized that there should be open dialogue between actors and makers to find workable solutions rather than applying a blanket rule.
Chopra revealed that while filming Shaque, she was informed of her pregnancy and that the production team was very supportive. “The makers were very flexible and understanding. They worked with my schedules,” she said. She added that she also pushed herself to perform to the best of her abilities under the circumstances, and that the team discussed all aspects—what could and could not be done, the hours, travel, and more—to ensure a positive experience.
She noted that a different outcome could have occurred if the conversation had not taken place: “You can have that conversation and the film, the creatives, the timings, locations etc. don’t work out in favour of pregnancy or motherhood. And then, two working individuals can decide not to go ahead and do that project together.” Chopra’s remarks underline the need for individualized solutions and stress that no single rule should dictate an actor’s maternity choices.
The series, which follows a mother’s nine‑year search for her child, will stream on Netflix on September 24. Chopra’s comments at the launch highlight both the challenges and the collaborative possibilities that arise when a pregnant actress works on a demanding project.
