Cinema VinesGurmeet Singh’s cinematic adaptation of the Amazon Prime Video hit series Mirzapur opened in Indian theatres on 4 September and has been a solid performer at the box office. By the end of its first week, the film had accumulated a net collection of ₹146.18 crore in India, according to trade portal Sacnilk. The figure was reached after a Thursday haul of ₹8.28 crore, bringing the domestic total to the reported amount.
Opening day earnings stood at ₹25.75 crore, and the film continued to grow over the weekend, pulling in ₹32 crore on Saturday and ₹36 crore on Sunday. Week‑day collections remained resilient, with ₹16 crore on Monday and a slight dip to ₹15.60 crore on Tuesday, before falling to ₹12.55 crore on Wednesday. The latest data shows a 24% occupancy across 10,292 shows, a decline from the previous day but still a respectable performance for a mid‑week release.
Mirzapur features a star‑studded ensemble that includes Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, Jitendra Kumar, Rasika Dugal and Ravi Kishan. The film, written by Puneet Krishna and produced by Excel Entertainment’s Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, has already out‑performed Akshay Kumar’s Welcome to the Jungle, which finished its run with ₹134.11 crore net. The next benchmark for the film will be Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2, which has earned ₹150.40 crore.
Ali Fazal, who portrays Guddu in the movie, recently visited a Lucknow theatre to watch the film and expressed optimism about its success. “I hope everyone likes the work, and I hope the film runs successfully. It’s very important for the entire industry. I want people to come back to theatres. I want that experience to start again,” he told PTI, adding that the film’s success would be “the love of the people.”
As the weekend approaches, Mirzapur will face competition from Priyadarshan’s Haiwaan, starring Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan. Whether the film can maintain its momentum against the new release remains to be seen, but its strong first‑week performance has already cemented it as one of the highest‑grossing Hindi films of 2026.
