Cinema VinesOn Thursday, September 10, the Tamil spy‑action sequel Sardar 2 opened across 3,950 screens in India, drawing a net box‑office takings of ₹4.50 crore on its first day, according to Sacnilk. The film’s gross in the domestic market reached ₹5.30 crore, while overseas sales added another ₹1.50 crore, pushing the worldwide total to ₹6.80 crore.
In the domestic split, the Tamil version earned ₹2.60 crore from 2,548 shows, achieving a 22% occupancy rate. The Telugu version collected ₹1.90 crore from 1,402 shows, with a higher occupancy of 29%. The overall occupancy across all shows was 24.5%.
Sardar 2 is a direct continuation of the 2022 film Sardar and stars Karthi in dual roles. Rajisha Vijayan reprises her part from the first film, while the new cast includes S. J. Suryah, Malavika Mohanan, Ashika Ranganath and Yogi Babu.
Director P. S. Mithran returns to helm the sequel, which is produced by Prince Pictures and IVY Entertainment. The screenplay is credited to Nambi, with additional story input from Rathna Kumar, Ashameera Aiyappan and Vignesh Muniyandi.
The technical team features cinematographer George C. Williams, editor Vijay Velukutty, and music composer Sam C. S., marking his 100th film as a composer. OfRo contributed a single track. Production design was handled by Rajeevan Nambiar, and stunt choreography was provided by Dhilip Subbarayan and Chethan D’Souza.
