Cinema VinesParineeti Chopra is set to re‑enter the screen after a year‑long break that followed the birth of her son in October last year. The 37‑year‑old actress will appear in her first full‑time project since becoming a mother, a mystery thriller series titled Shaque that will debut on Netflix on September 24.
The announcement came at the Mumbai trailer launch on Thursday, September 10, 2026, where Chopra highlighted the changing dynamics of the industry. She said she has never been approached with a role that specifically tied her to motherhood, describing the absence of such conversations as a “win” for working parents. “I would hate to stop working just because I became a mom,” she told reporters, adding that she hopes the industry continues to offer her work without the label of ‘mom’ attached.
Chopra also praised the audience for becoming more accepting of mothers in the entertainment field. She noted that viewers are no longer “cancelling mothers,” which she believes has opened doors for writers, directors and actors to create content that includes parent‑characters. “This business is not solitary; it is supply and demand with the audience,” she explained, expressing gratitude for the shift in public perception.
During the event, she applauded fellow actresses Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone and her cousin Priyanka Chopra, all of whom have continued to work after becoming parents. Chopra said that seeing these actresses succeed has helped normalize the idea that motherhood and a career can coexist. “I think we are doing better work now,” she added.
In Shaque, Chopra plays a mother who is on a quest to find her missing child. The series was created by Rensil D’Silva and Siddharth P. Malhotra and features a star‑studded cast that includes Soni Razdan, Anup Soni, Jennifer Winget, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Harleen Sethi, Dhruv Chowdhary and Sumeet Vyas. Chopra’s last film appearance was in Imtiaz Ali’s 2024 biopic Amar Singh Chamkila, which starred Diljit Dosanjh.
