Cinema VinesKunal Kemmu’s next outing, the spy‑comedy Vibe, has already begun to stir curiosity among fans of his earlier work, Madgaon Express and Go Goa Gone. The film’s trailer, released ahead of its September 18 theatrical launch, was met with laughter for its punchy jokes and the actor‑director’s impeccable timing. Yet, what caught many viewers’ attention were subtle Easter eggs that seem to link Vibe to Kemmu’s previous movies.
In the trailer, Kunal plays an aimless young man who shares a flat with his friend Sparsh Shrivastava. Sparsh refers to Kunal’s character as Hard I K, a name that echoes the stoner protagonist Hardik from Go Goa Gone. The reference is furthered by a line in which the character confuses Goa for Pondicherry and Mumbai for Bangalore – a gag that fans recognise from the drug‑fueled scenes in Go Goa Gone and its sequel. These nods suggest that Kemmu may be laying the groundwork for a shared cinematic universe.
When asked by the Hindustan Times whether these are mere jokes or part of a larger plan, Kemmu admitted that he has “a lot of plans happening in my head.” He added that only the ideas that get executed will count, and that he is open to shaping them if the right direction presents itself. “I don’t want to jinx anything, but I have certain ideas in my head. If I see a direction for them, I can always mould them,” he said.
Beyond the potential universe, Kemmu reflected on the challenges of comedy. “Comedy is a serious business,” he explained. “It is technical. On set, if you expect that when I do this scene, everybody will laugh, it may not happen. And if they don’t laugh, you can’t think it didn’t land.” He noted that even during the shoot of Madgaon Express, there were moments when the crew was serious and laughter was scarce, underscoring the unpredictability of humor.
Vibe’s ensemble includes Preity Zinta, Vanshika Dhir, Dinesh Lal Yadav, and Yashpal Sharma, among others. The film is produced by Kunal Kemmu and Chirag Nihalani under their banner Drongo Films, in association with Amazon MGM Studios. Fans of Kemmu’s brand of satire can expect a blend of spy tropes and off‑beat comedy, with the added intrigue of possible cross‑film references that may set the stage for future collaborations.
