Sagar Pictures Entertainment has released the first teaser poster for its upcoming epic, Shrimad Bhagavatam Part I: Vishnurata, the inaugural film in a planned seven‑part theatrical saga. The poster, titled “Vishnurata” – meaning “the one protected by Vishnu” – sets the spiritual tone and visual direction for the story, placing divine protection at the centre of its imagery.
The new project hails from the same family that brought the landmark television epic Ramayan to screens in 1987. Now, the family is adapting the Bhagavatam Mahapurana, one of India’s most revered sacred texts, into cinema. With Lord Shri Krishna at its core, the Bhagavatam offers a vast spiritual landscape of devotion, dharma and the eternal bond between humanity and the divine.
Co‑directors Akash Sagar Chopra and Amrit Sagar Chopra, both grandsons of the late filmmaker and producer Shri Ramanand Sagar, explained that they grew up with the Bhagavatam stories and view them as an integral part of India’s civilisational memory. “We cannot recreate what our grandfather did, nor would we try,” they said. “Every generation must discover its own cinematic language, shaped by the medium and possibilities of its time.”
They added that over the past six years they have studied the Bhagavatam extensively before feeling ready to translate it to film. They believe Part I, Vishnurata, demands a scale and imagination beyond conventional cinema. “The text’s vastness required a vast cinematic canvas,” they said. “Across centuries, the divine has taken form in paintings, sculptures and sacred imagery. We wanted to remain true to the images we grew up seeing, recognising and praying to, while bringing them to life with the realism, authenticity and scale that modern cinema offers.”
Vishnurata is currently in the final stages of production, featuring expansive production design and visual storytelling that the filmmakers hope will create a never‑before‑seen cinematic world. The film is slated for a worldwide theatrical release in 2027 across all premium formats, presented by Sagar Pictures Entertainment.
