Veteran actor Sharat Saxena, 76, has emerged from a six‑hour spinal operation with a grin, announcing on Instagram that he no longer needs a walking stick or soup after the procedure. The Mumbai‑based actor, who first appeared in the 1973 film Benaam starring Amitabh Bachchan, shared a series of photos that charted his journey from hospital bed to home with family.
The montage began with a shot of Saxena lying on a hospital bed, captioned “Surgery done.” Subsequent images showed him being wheeled home, celebrating with relatives, and even toasting with a drink while joking, “Party today, gym tomorrow.” In a separate post, he posted a photo of himself undergoing an MRI scan before the lumbar spine surgery, writing, “Standing MRI before lumbar spine surgery at Bombay Hospital.”
In his latest update, the actor wrote, “6 hour spine surgery‑done CAN’T KEEP A GOOD MAN DOWN.” He added that the operation has freed him from the need to rely on a cane, and he expressed relief that he would no longer have to consume soup as part of his recovery diet.
Saxena’s career spans more than five decades, with appearances in over 250 films across Hindi and other Indian languages. He is best remembered for roles in blockbusters such as Mr. India, Tridev, Ghayal, Khiladi, Ghulam, Gupt: The Hidden Truth, Phir Hera Pheri, Baghban, Fanaa, Krrish, and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Known for his muscular build, he often portrayed action characters and was famously referred to as the “punching bag” of Hindi cinema, a role he discussed in an interview with Rediff where he explained how he was repeatedly beaten by heroes in films.
Despite the physical demands of his career, Saxena’s recent health scare has been met with optimism. His social media posts convey a sense of humor and resilience, with the actor promising to return to the gym soon. Fans and colleagues alike have expressed support, wishing him a swift and full recovery as he continues to inspire with his enduring presence on screen.
