Cinema VinesPrime Video’s latest romantic comedy, Don’t Be Shy, has just released its trailer, offering a glimpse into a story that revolves around first loves, heartbreaks and the awkward decisions that come with growing up. The film is the brainchild of director Sreeti Mukerji and is produced by Bollywood star Alia Bhatt alongside her sister Shaheen Bhatt under the banner Eternal Sunshine Productions.
The 2‑minute‑32‑second teaser introduces us to Shyamili “Shy” Das, played by newcomer Aarushi Bajaj. Shy has a carefully laid‑out life plan, but when unexpected events unravel her world, she finds herself torn between the affluent and popular Mayank (Piyush Khati) and her childhood friend Dhruv (Ansh Duggal). The arrival of Tara (Bianca Arora) at her college adds another layer of complexity, forcing Shy to confront whether her meticulously crafted roadmap can still hold.
Alia Bhatt shared the trailer on social media and described the film as “all about first loves, best friends, heartbreaks, bad decisions, all the things that make growing up what it is.” She added that the story is a tribute to the movies of our youth, reminding viewers that even when life gets wild, we can always find our way back home to ourselves.
Director Sreeti Mukerji said the film stems from her longing for the safe, comforting, and entertaining movies she watched growing up. She framed the project as a homage to that pivotal time when we’re on the brink of adulthood yet still feel young in many ways.
Aarushi Bajaj expressed excitement about playing a character so different from herself, noting the role pushed her out of her comfort zone and carried a responsibility to honor Shy’s journey. She looks forward to audiences experiencing the story through Shy’s eyes.
In addition to the fresh faces, the cast features Kunaal Roy Kapur, Anurag Basu, Neha Dhupia and Anju Alva Naik in pivotal roles. The film will be available in Hindi with English subtitles on Prime Video from September 25.
