The 62‑year‑old spoke on Live with Kelly and Mark on Thursday, September 10, and revealed that she had only about two hours of sleep before the ceremony because she was caring for her son Louis, who had been born earlier that day and whose arrival she had not yet announced to the public.
During the interview, Mark asked Bullock about her memories of the night she won Best Actress for The Blind Side. The actress confessed that she barely remembered the event, to which Kelly quipped, “Nobody does.” Bullock explained that she was “hiding a newborn” and that her son’s acid reflux meant he woke every two hours, leaving her exhausted and focused on getting home to feed him.
Despite the significance of the Academy Awards, Bullock said her priority was to return home quickly. She wanted to be there for the feeding and to support her partner, who she felt was also struggling with the new baby. She added that she had been wearing the same dress she arrived in and was unable to change, so she simply sat in it with Lou on her lap while the Oscar trophy lay on the floor.
“It was the best way to have that night because it was so overwhelming in general,” she reflected. Bullock noted that the exhaustion actually helped her cope with the chaos, and that the most important part of the evening was the family moment at home, rather than the ceremony itself.
