Despite the buzz surrounding his performance in Narivetta, the actor found that substantial offers in Malayalam remained scarce, prompting him to seek opportunities in Tamil cinema where he could secure work more easily.
In DC, Teophine plays Sebastian, a member of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s gang and a close friend of the character Das. Unlike the violent, troubled Thami, Sebastian is a character who yearns to leave his past behind and build a peaceful life. “Arun sir told me that my character was on the softer side,” Teophine explained. “It is about the bonding between the gang. Their main motive is to set out to do something good. Sebastian wants to leave his violent past behind and start a good life. He keeps pushing everyone towards it. He is a good friend.”
Teophine’s journey to DC began long before the film’s production. After Narivetta, he actively sought the attention of director Arun Matheswaran, sending concept photoshoots and tagging the director. Matheswaran had already seen Narivetta and praised Teophine’s work, saying they would collaborate. “Later, I got a call from the production office of DC,” he recalled.
Working with Lokesh Kanagaraj proved to be a smooth experience for Teophine, who had previously appeared in the director’s 2020 films Master and Vikram. The actor described Kanagaraj as a mentor, noting the collaborative nature of their scenes. “During scenes, he would tell me that something could be a good moment for me and suggest how I could approach it. If it was his scene, he would also ask for suggestions,” Teophine said. He did not involve himself in the larger script or story, leaving that to Matheswaran, but Kanagaraj’s input helped shape Sebastian’s portrayal.
The timing of DC’s release has come at a pivotal point in Teophine’s career. With a softer, more hopeful character in a high‑profile Tamil film, he is poised to expand his reach beyond Malayalam audiences and establish himself as a versatile actor capable of navigating both intense and nuanced roles.
