The Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA) has issued a formal statement to clear up misunderstandings surrounding a recent Bombay High Court order that has been linked to a legal dispute between Saffron Magicworks Private Limited, owned by Nikhil Dwivedi, and Andolan Films Private Limited, owned by Vikramaditya Motwane. The court order, which was passed in connection with the conflict between the two production houses, has been the subject of media reports that the association says misrepresent the scope and impact of the ruling.
IMPPA clarified that its role in the matter is strictly institutional. The association is only carrying out its duties under its Memorandum and Articles of Association and has no independent commercial stake in the dispute. The association explained that the conflict had been referred to its Dispute Resolution Committee, and that any decisions or directions issued by that committee apply only to the parties directly involved in the dispute and the specific issues that were presented to the committee.
The statement also addressed rumours that a blanket restraining order had been issued against IMPPA, preventing it from performing its normal functions. The association denied such claims, stating that no such order exists and that the court’s directive should be interpreted strictly according to its express terms. IMPPA stressed that it will continue to execute its responsibilities in line with applicable law, its governing framework, and any court directions.
By issuing this clarification, IMPPA aims to separate its institutional responsibilities from the commercial dispute between Saffron Magicworks and Andolan Films. The association urged the public and the press to rely only on the court’s explicit wording when discussing the order, and to avoid over‑interpretations that could mislead readers about the association’s role or the implications of the ruling.
