Vijay and Ajith unite at Silverstone; CM Vijay waves green flag

In a surprising turn of events at the Le Mans Cup race in Silverstone, England, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and film star C. Joseph Vijay, popularly known as Thala, and superstar Ajith Kumar, known as Thalapathy, shared a moment that has delighted fans across the Tamil film industry. The two icons, who have long been perceived as rivals, met during the event where Vijay was slated to wave the ceremonial green flag for Ajith’s race.

Director Venkat Prabhu, who has previously helmed Ajith’s 2011 hit Mankatha and Vijay’s 2024 film The Greatest of All Time (GOAT), expressed his excitement at the gathering. He noted that the meeting came at a time when the CM was also attending an investment forum, making the coincidence of the race and the flag‑off particularly noteworthy. Prabhu added, “I am happy they are setting aside fan wars and meeting. Our CM is there for an investment meeting, and coincidentally, the race is happening at the same time. So, he’s flagging it off. I am glad to see them respect their friendship.”

Vijay’s arrival at the race was marked by a warm hug with Ajith, a gesture that quickly went viral on social media. Following the flag‑off, the CM watched the race from a balcony, accompanied by actress Trisha Krishnan and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Aadhav Arjuna. Trisha was also seen joining Vijay and Ajith at their tent before the race began, further adding to the star‑studded atmosphere.

Sports commentators drew parallels between the pair and Hollywood icons Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise, highlighting the magnitude of their stardom. They speculated that Ajith might soon explore a film centered on F2 racing, following the success of Pitt’s recent Formula One movie. Ajith’s recent projects include Vidaamuyarchi and Good Bad Ugly, while Vijay’s latest release is Jana Nayagan.

While attending a pre‑release event for Lenin Pandiyan’s debut film, Venkat Prabhu mentioned that he would have preferred to be in London for the ceremony but felt it was essential to be present for the Silverstone gathering. He later shared photos of Vijay and Ajith on X (formerly Twitter), captioning them with a series of heart emojis to convey his elation.
