The conversation unfolded when a contestant asked whether the couple ever has to wait for Jaya to get ready for a wedding or other event. Bachchan laughed and revealed a simple timing trick: he tells her the event time an hour earlier than the actual time, allowing her to start getting ready well in advance and ensuring they arrive on time.
For example, if the wedding is scheduled for 6 pm, he tells her to start preparing at 5 pm, which gives her about an hour and a half to get ready. This method, he explained, helps them avoid the last‑minute rush that can happen when both are busy. He also admitted that when he knows he will be late returning home, he pre‑emptively texts his family, including Jaya, to let them know he will be delayed and they need not wait for him at dinner. He said that if he fails to inform her, she will scold him for not telling her where he was and that she will simply eat her dinner and go to bed.
The couple’s love story dates back to the early 1970s. They were first introduced on the set of the film Guddi in 1971, and their romance blossomed during the shoot of Ek Nazar in 1972. After the success of Zanjeer in 1973, the pair planned a holiday to London. Their father, Harivansh Rai Bachchan, reportedly told them that they could only travel together if they were married. The couple therefore had a quick, private wedding ceremony on 3 June 1973 before departing for London that same day.
Since then, Amitabh and Jaya have built a family that includes two children, Shweta and Abhishek Bachchan, and three grandchildren: Navya Naveli Nanda, Agastya Nanda and Aaradhya Bachchan. The Bachchans’ enduring partnership has become a subject of admiration for fans and a testament to their shared commitment, both on and off the screen.
