The scan, conducted after her third remission a few months earlier, showed that the disease had progressed, prompting her doctors to switch her treatment plan to targeted therapy.
Ali, who has been candid about her health struggles since her 2018 diagnosis of stage‑3 peritoneal and ovarian cancer, posted the update on Instagram along with a photo taken from a hospital bed. In the image, she appears upbeat, holding up her IV drip, and she thanked her followers for their continued support. “My treatment protocol has changed and now I have been put on a Targeted Therapy fighting the good fight. Thank you for always keeping my support energy strong,” she wrote.
She also explained the scan results in plain language: “In very simple terms, the PET/CT suggests that the ovarian/peritoneal cancer has progressed, with new deposits on the surface of the liver.” The post drew an outpouring of encouragement from fans, friends and industry colleagues, including fashion designer Farah Khan Ali, who wrote, “You fight girl. You are strong, you are fabulous, you are brave, and you will succeed. Love and prayers your way always my Naf.”
Ali’s journey has been public since 2018, during which she has documented periods of remission and treatment. She has largely resided in Goa while managing her health. In July 2026, she spoke to the Indian Express about the emotional and financial toll of cancer, noting, “Cancer is something that tears families apart. It tears your financial balance apart. It is the scariest journey that I have ever been on because earlier, I could fight for the world. Now, I'm fighting for my life.” She added a message to her children and the younger generation about striving for a better world.
Despite her health challenges, Ali continues to work in the film industry. She appeared in Sooraj Barjatya’s 2022 film Uunchai, playing the estranged wife of Amitabh Bachchan’s character, and has remained active in other projects. Her resilience and openness have made her a source of inspiration for many facing similar battles.
