Cinema VinesThe Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has opened a formal inquiry into the 2020 death of Disha Salian, the former manager of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, by registering a first information report (FIR). The filing came after a directive from the Bombay High Court for a comprehensive probe into the case. According to a statement released by the CBI, the FIR was lodged following a preliminary verification of a complaint filed by Disha’s father, Satish Salian, and the statement recorded by the agency.
The complaint alleges that Disha Salian was sexually assaulted and murdered, and that a cover‑up involving several high‑profile individuals took place. Advocate Nilesh Ojha, who represents Satish Salian in court, said the FIR lists a number of prominent figures, including Shiv Sena‑UBT leader Aaditya Thackeray, Bollywood actors Rohan Roy and Rhea Chakraborty, and others such as Param Bir Singh, DCP Vishal Thakur, and the police officer who allegedly made false records. The FIR also names Dino Morea, Sooraj Pancholi, Thackeray’s bodyguard, a PI from Malwani police station, members of the Special Investigation Team (SIT), a doctor named Sanjay Yadav, and a forensic lab chemical analyst who allegedly altered a gang‑rape report.
The charges in the FIR cover a range of offences under the Indian Penal Code, including sections 376D (gang rape), 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence), 217 (criminal conspiracy), 218 (attempt to commit a crime), and 120B (criminal conspiracy). Advocate Ojha stated that the entire alleged cover‑up was proven false by CCTV footage and that the court had found substance in the prima facie case, prompting the High Court to refer the matter to the CBI.
Disha Salian’s death originally occurred on 9 June 2020 when she fell from the 12th floor of a building in Malad at approximately 2:25 a.m. The Malwani police initially registered an accidental death report and ruled the incident a suicide, finding no evidence of foul play. A Special Investigation Team set up by the Maharashtra government in December 2023 also concluded that there was no foul play in her death. However, Satish Salian has since challenged these findings, claiming that his daughter was subjected to brutal sexual assault and murder as part of a “deep‑rooted conspiracy involving powerful people.”
The CBI’s FIR marks a significant escalation in the investigation, as it formally accuses several influential individuals and institutions of complicity in the alleged crime and its subsequent cover‑up. The bureau will now conduct a detailed probe into the allegations, which could potentially lead to criminal proceedings against the named parties if evidence supports the claims.
