Samantha Ruth Prabhu shares intimate seemantham photos; ritual honors mother‑to‑be

Samantha Ruth Prabhu, the Telugu and Tamil actress who is expecting her first child with husband Raj Nidimoru, posted a series of images and videos on Instagram this Monday that showcased her participation in a traditional seemantham ceremony. The ritual, known as Kalaa Aavarana (Sri Kalpam), is a specialised rite from the Srividya tradition that honours the 94 kalas of Devi and the mother‑to‑be’s seven chakras.

The ceremony took place in an open area adorned with diyas and flowers, with priests present to guide the proceedings. Samantha sat in a light orange churidaar, wearing a garland, as water was poured over her in one video. In another clip, a group of women touched her head and chest while she closed her eyes, marking the sanctification of the moment.

In her caption, the actress reflected on her respect for tradition, noting that although she does not fully grasp every ritual’s meaning, she believes in the deeper forces at work: “There is something deeper at work… in the sound of a mantra, the energy created through chanting, and the careful way the ancient practices have been passed down through generations.” She added that the priest, a Srividya Upaasaka, explained each step, helping her appreciate the thoughtfulness and significance of the ceremony.

Samantha described how the ritual honours the mother as Devi herself, celebrating her role as the sacred creator through whom new life is formed. After the abhishekam, she was seated at the centre of the Sri Chakra Yantram, a nine‑layered structure that represents stages of the spiritual journey, with a bindu at its core symbolising the source of creation and the presence of Lalita Tripurasundari.

During the recitation of the Devi Khadgamaala, the names of the deities associated with the nine enclosures were chanted, symbolically moving from outer layers to the centre, guiding the mind inward and invoking protection and blessings. The actress, who has recently returned to Telugu cinema after battling myositis, shared that the ceremony was a blessing for both the unborn child and herself as she embraces a new version of herself.
