Cinema VinesRumours that Salman Khan’s war epic Maatrubhumi would finally get a Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) clearance last week have turned out to be false. According to a source who spoke to Bollywood Hungama, the film remains in limbo, with no scheduled CBFC screening and the release still on hold because of its China connection.
The source said, “I wish these reports were true. But with a heavy heart, I’d like to inform you that there sadly has been no update about its CBFC screening. The film is still stuck due to its China connection.” They added that the makers are actively seeking a solution and are in contact with the relevant government officials. Once a resolution is reached, the CBFC would pass the film and it could hit theatres, but the timeline remains uncertain.
Earlier this year, Maatrubhumi was announced under the working title Battle Of Galwan and was later renamed. The story is set against the 2020 border clash between India and China. Because of diplomatic sensitivities, the Ministry of Defence had raised concerns about certain content, and in April it was revealed that the word “China” might be omitted from the final cut. The controversy sparked widespread discussion online and led to speculation that the film could be delayed until 2027.
In a recent update, the makers released a new poster confirming that the film would arrive in cinemas in 2026, should the issues be resolved soon. When asked whether the release could happen this year or next, the source replied, “As said before, it all depends on when the issues get resolved. If it happens sooner, the makers will definitely try to bring out the film in theatres in 2026 itself, though there are not enough vacant slots available. Or else, it’ll move to 2027.”
With the current status unchanged, fans of Salman Khan and war‑film enthusiasts must wait for further announcements. The CBFC’s decision will ultimately determine whether Maatrubhumi can finally be screened, and when it will reach Indian cinemas.
