The veteran star clarified that his recent comment about “time to retire” was a literal reference to going to bed, not a hint at ending his acting or hosting career.
In a post dated just days after speculation began circulating, Bachchan explained that the phrase “time to retire” was used in the context of ending a day’s work. He wrote, “I wrote in the blog… ‘it’s late, time to retire…’ which we all know means retire to bed. It is the media – the conscience of a nation – the ultimate informer!” He also shared a newspaper clipping that had reported his supposed retirement, calling the coverage a misinterpretation.
The actor went further to state, in Hindi and English, that he is not retiring from work. “Ji nahin huzoor, main kaam se retire nahin ho raha hoon; Angrezi mein iska matlab hota hai main ab sone jaa raha hoon,” he wrote, adding, “And you are not invited there.” This double‑language message underscored that the word “retire” was being used in its everyday sense of going to sleep.
Bachchan, who has hosted Kaun Banega Crorepati since its launch in 2000 (with a brief hiatus in 2007 when Shah Rukh Khan took over), remains active in film as well. His most recent on‑screen appearance was in the 2024 film Vettaiyan alongside Rajinikanth, and he lent his voice to Farhan Akhtar’s 120 Bahadur. He is also slated to return as Ashwatthama in Nag Ashwin’s upcoming sequel Kalki 2898 AD: Part 2, co‑starring Prabhas and Kamal Haasan.
