In a heartfelt ceremony held at a Christian‑style church, Tamil film icons Suriya and Jyothika reaffirmed their marriage after two decades together. The couple, who first tied the knot in 2006, chose to renew their vows on September 16, 2026, inviting close friends and family to witness the intimate event. Among the guests were Suriya’s brother and fellow actor Karthi, as well as the couple’s own children, Dev and Diya, who served as best man and bridesmaid respectively.
The video posted by the pair a few hours after the ceremony quickly captured the hearts of fans. Jyothika, dressed in a white off‑shoulder gown, exchanged vows with Suriya in a setting that marked a departure from their original Hindu wedding two decades earlier. Suriya, smiling proudly, watched his wife as she spoke about choosing happiness, celebrating life, staying grateful, prioritising health, and being the best mother to their children. She reflected on the imperfect yet enduring nature of their relationship, promising to remain “that imperfect wife, who fights, and then makes up, only to grow a little more closer to you each time.”
In her vows, Jyothika highlighted the friendship that underpins their marriage, describing Suriya as her equal, confidant, gossip partner, and best friend in addition to being her husband and father of their children. She concluded with a toast to the next twenty years, acknowledging “the imperfect us, with the perfect understanding.” The couple’s decision to hold a Christian‑style ceremony rather than a traditional Hindu one underscores the evolution of their personal journey, which they described as a path filled with “imperfections, adjustments, understanding, sacrifices, and selfless love.”
The pair first met on the set of the 1999 film “Poovellam Kettuppar” and began dating while working together on the thriller “Kaakha Kaakha.” Their marriage in 2006 produced two children, Dev and Diya, who now played key roles in celebrating their parents’ renewed commitment. The ceremony, captured in a short video, was shared by the couple with the caption: “The Sequel: A vow renewal, celebrating our 20 years of love and war.”
