Cinema VinesIn a recent development that has stirred interest among devotees and fans alike, veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan has announced plans to construct a dharamshala in Ayodhya as a tribute to his late father, the celebrated poet Dr. Harivansh Rai Bachchan. The project, which will feature more than 20 rooms, is slated for the land that Mr. Bachchan purchased for roughly ₹15 crore as part of the Sarayu project on Dashrath Path.
According to a report by India Today, an application for the building map was submitted to the Ayodhya Development Authority (ADA) in July. The ADA has responded by issuing a public notice, inviting objections to the proposed layout within a 15‑day window. Once the review process concludes, formal approval will be granted provided all requirements are satisfied. Construction is expected to begin in October, pending final clearance.
Ayodhya Development Authority Vice Chairman Anurag Jain confirmed that the application for a dharamshala with more than 20 rooms had indeed been received from Mr. Bachchan. He added that the layout would be approved after due process and that the facility would offer improved accommodation for devotees visiting Ayodhya.
Dr. Harivansh Rai Bachchan, honoured with the Padma Bhushan, was a prominent Hindi poet and translator best known for his 1935 poem Madhushala and his Hindi translations of Shakespeare’s plays. Amitabh’s mother, Teji Bachchan, was a social activist and theatre performer who also served as a director of the Film Finance Corporation of India.
While the actor has recently addressed rumours about his retirement on his blog—clarifying that his comment about “it’s late, time to retire” was a playful reference to going to bed—he remains active in the industry. He is currently hosting Kaun Banega Crorepati 18 and is set to appear in Nag Ashwin’s sequel to Kalki 2898 AD, alongside Prabhas and Kamal Haasan.
