Cinema VinesVeteran actor Anant Nag, celebrated for his extensive work in both Hindi and Kannada cinema, has been selected to receive the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2024. The announcement was made by the government on Wednesday, following a recommendation from the award’s Selection Committee. Nag, who is 78 years old, has appeared in more than 250 films over a career spanning five decades, and is also known for his contributions to theatre.
The award, which is the highest honour bestowed by the Indian film industry, will be presented to Nag at the National Film Awards ceremony in Kevadia, Gujarat, on September 22. The event will mark a significant moment in Nag’s career, highlighting his lasting impact on Indian cinema.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to X to congratulate Nag, praising his versatility and the depth and authenticity of his performances. He noted that “for several decades, his effortless performances, remarkable versatility and brilliance have left a very strong mark on Indian cinema, particularly Kannada cinema. In whichever role he has played, he brought rare depth and authenticity.”
Nag’s filmography includes acclaimed titles such as “Minchina Ota,” “Hamsageethe,” “Ankur,” and “Manthan.” His work has earned him recognition across linguistic and regional boundaries, cementing his reputation as a distinguished figure in Indian film.
The Press Information Bureau confirmed that the award was announced on the recommendation of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award Selection Committee, acknowledging Nag’s contributions to Indian cinema and his illustrious career. The ceremony will take place in Gujarat, where the national film awards are traditionally held.
