Cinema VinesDuring the promotion tour for his debut film Sigma, actor‑turned‑director Jason Sanjay took a moment to address rumours swirling around his family. The 25‑year‑old, son of superstar and newly elected Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, said he was delighted that his father had won the political office, adding that the moment was joyous for everyone involved. “I felt very happy. It was obviously a very happy moment for me and everyone around him,” Sanjay told reporters, even as a fan shouted “no politics” from the crowd.
When asked if Vijay would help promote the film, Sanjay made it clear that he wanted the spotlight to stay on the movie itself. “No, no. Because I want the promotion to be about the film. I don’t want that to overlap. And obviously, he’s the CM today. So, he has so much responsibility,” he explained. He added that Vijay was simply waiting to see the final product before offering any support.
Despite the media’s focus on the father‑son dynamic, Sanjay praised his dad’s punctuality as a key influence on his own work ethic. He also dismissed the notion that he had been “padded” by his father for the film’s launch, pointing instead to the collective effort of the crew and audience. The director also noted that he had chosen to use his mother’s initial “S” in the film’s title, a decision that has been misinterpreted by some as a deliberate break from his father’s legacy.
In addition to discussing family matters, Sanjay highlighted his appreciation for Telugu cinema, naming Rajamouli’s Maryada Ramanna and Trivikram Srinivas’s Khaleja as favourites. He described Sigma as a heist comedy that follows a man’s struggle to find his identity, a theme he hopes will resonate with audiences across Tamil and Telugu markets.
Produced by Lyca Productions, Sigma stars Sundeep Kishan, Faria Abdullah, Sampath Raj, Shiv Panditt, Yog Japee, Sheela Rajkumar and Raju Sundaram, with music composed by Thaman S. The film was initially slated for a 31 July release but was postponed to avoid clashing with Vijay’s delayed final film, Jana Nayagan, which hit screens on 23 July. Sigma will now open in both languages on 2 October.
Beyond his cinematic pursuits, Sanjay holds a Master’s degree in Journalism and has spent more than a decade working as a field reporter and sub‑editor for outlets such as The Times of India and Reader’s Digest, underscoring his multifaceted background in media and storytelling.
