Mirzapur: The Movie hits ₹200 crore mark; Pankaj Tripathi stars in blockbuster

Since its theatrical launch on 4 September, Gurmeet Singh’s film adaptation of the Prime Video hit‑series Mirzapur has steadily climbed the box‑office charts, reaching the ₹200 crore milestone in India by the end of its 13th day. The milestone was announced after the trade portal Sacnilk reported a net collection of ₹3.04 crore on Wednesday, bringing the domestic total to ₹198.74 crore.

The film’s run has been marked by a modest dip on Monday, when it earned ₹5.50 crore, but it rebounded on Tuesday with the same figure, stabilising its earnings. Overall, Mirzapur: The Movie accumulated ₹148.45 crore during its opening week. The subsequent Friday, Saturday and Sunday brought in ₹9.50 crore, ₹13.50 crore and ₹13.25 crore respectively.

With an opening weekend haul of ₹25.75 crore and a strong performance in the weekdays, the movie has outperformed Akshay Kumar’s Bhooth Bangla, which finished its run with ₹182.36 crore net in India. The film’s success is notable given its lack of traditional Bollywood marquee stars, relying instead on a cast that includes Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, Jitendra Kumar and Ravi Kishan.

Produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under Excel Entertainment, the film is written by Puneet Krishna and serves as an interquel set during the first season of the original web series. It has received largely positive reviews and is now among the top five highest‑grossing Hindi films of 2026.

Actor Abhishek Banerjee, who portrayed Compunder in the series and also worked as its casting director, told PTI that the film’s success demonstrates there is no divide between mainstream Bollywood talent and OTT performers. He recalled the early days of casting for Mirzapur, noting how challenging it was to convince actors that the series could be a “next big thing.” He added that many actors were skeptical at the time, but now “everybody wants to be a part of a good web show.”
