Cinema VinesRaja Karuppasamy’s first feature, the Tamil comedy‑drama Modha Rathri, has moved from the big screen to the streaming arena. After a theatrical run that began on 21 August 2026, the film will be available on Netflix from 18 September 2026, in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi. The five‑language release aims to bring the story of an arranged marriage to a broad audience across South India and beyond.
The plot follows Maruthanayagam, or Maruthu, who returns to his village after six years in Dubai, and Muthuselvi, a woman who has already endured heartbreak. Neither of them had chosen the union, yet family pressure and village tradition force them into marriage. The narrative explores how the couple navigates their reluctance, personal struggles and the expectations that surround them, offering a mix of humor and drama that is typical of contemporary Tamil cinema.
Rishikanth stars as Maruthu, marking his debut as a lead actor, while Anishma Anilkumar plays Muthuselvi. The supporting cast includes Shelly Kishore, Chetan and Bagavathi Perumal, all of whom contribute to the film’s rural setting and emotional depth. Karuppasamy wrote and directed the film, making his debut as a filmmaker, and the production was overseen by Naveen Yerneni and Y. Ravi Shankar under Mythri Movie Makers, with T‑Series presenting.
The technical crew features Bharath Sankar on music and background score, Surendran Paranjothi handling cinematography, and Ashok Arjunan in charge of editing. Production design was led by A. Balumahendra, while Poornima Ramaswamy designed the costumes. Action choreography was provided by Thalapathy Raja and dance sequences by Anusha Viswanathan. Sound design and mix were managed by T. S. Hari Hara Sudhan and Raghav Ramesh.
With its digital premiere set for 18 September, fans of the film can now stream Modha Rathri on Netflix, enjoying the story in their preferred language and experiencing the debut director’s fresh take on the timeless theme of arranged marriage in rural India.
