The Bollywood actress posted a video of the couple performing a Ganesh aarti at the home of Salman Khan’s sister, Arpita Khan, during the festival of Ganesh Visarjan. The clip shows the Ganesha idol, the surrounding decorations, and the couple’s synchronized chants, with Salman Khan’s family members visible in the background. To shield the post from the barrage of negative comments that have historically followed their interfaith marriage, Sonakshi opted to disable the comments section on the upload.
The couple’s marriage, which took place on June 23, 2024, has attracted its share of online scrutiny. After the wedding, Sonakshi and Zaheer faced a wave of trolls who targeted them because of their Hindu-Muslim union. Despite the backlash, the pair have largely ignored the vitriol and continued to lead their lives together. Their recent decision to share a devotional video, while turning off comments, reflects a deliberate effort to focus on positivity and avoid further harassment.
In a separate interview with News18, Sonakshi’s father, veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha, defended the marriage. He stated, “Everything is all right. We are very happy. They are made for each other.” He added that nothing illegal or unconstitutional had been done and that the couple’s adult consent should be respected. He concluded, “We should stand by them wholeheartedly, like a rock.”
Sonakshi has also spoken about the mutual respect between the two cultures in an interview with Hauterrfly. She explained that each partner honors the other’s traditions: “They follow certain traditions at their house; I follow certain traditions at my house. He comes and sits in my Diwali puja. I go and sit in their niyaz, and that’s all that matters.” This sentiment underscores the couple’s commitment to celebrating both Hindu and Muslim practices side by side.
