In a startling video that went viral last week, Bollywood actress Bipasha Basu claimed to have found worms inside a newly opened container of Isopure protein powder. The clip, posted on her social media accounts, showed the actress holding up the product and pointing to what appeared to be a small worm on her finger, while she described the contents as “full of tiny, tiny worms.” She further alleged that several other worms were present inside the container, calling the product “compromised.”
Following the outcry, Isopure issued a statement within hours. The company said it had immediately reached out to Ms. Basu to address her concerns and that its quality team was “evaluating the pack for authenticity and quality.” The statement reiterated Isopure’s commitment to high standards of product quality and consumer safety, and thanked the actress for her prompt response. The company’s spokesperson added that the investigation was underway and that no independent verification of the claim had yet been made.
Ms. Basu’s post also called for regulatory intervention, tagging Tukaram Mundhe, the Commissioner of Maharashtra’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In an Instagram story she wrote, “@tukaram ias You are our only hope… So, we don’t get spoilt or adulterated stuff in everything we purchase.” The allegation comes amid growing scrutiny of food safety in Maharashtra, though no other incidents involving Isopure have been reported.
The controversy follows Ms. Basu’s recent digital cover appearance for Elle, where she spoke about her work and motherhood. Her sudden shift to a consumer safety issue has sparked widespread discussion online, with many followers questioning the authenticity of the claim and demanding a thorough investigation. The outcome of Isopure’s quality review and any subsequent regulatory action will be closely watched by both the public and industry observers.
