Richa Chadha Unveils ‘Musafiri’ Trailer; New YouTube Series Explores Mumbai’s Hidden Stories

Richa Chadha has released the trailer for her upcoming eight‑episode non‑fiction series Musafiri, set to debut on the newly launched YouTube channel Phull Stop, co‑founded by Chadha and actor Ali Fazal. The first episode is scheduled for release on September 25, with a new installment dropping every Friday thereafter.

In the teaser, Chadha reflects on how motherhood has reshaped her perception of the world, prompting her to view familiar places with fresh curiosity. She turns her focus to Mumbai, asking herself, "How well do I really know the city that has given me so much?" The series promises to delve into the city’s hidden histories, overlooked spaces, intriguing characters, and untold stories.

Speaking about the project, Chadha said, "Motherhood changed the way I look at the world. It makes you curious all over again, you start questioning things you have taken for granted, looking at the familiar with a completely different sense of wonder. I found myself asking so many questions about the city I have lived in for years. Do I really know Mumbai? How much of this city do I actually know? And a question that stayed with me was, a city that has given me so much, what do I owe it in return?" She added, "I have always been curious about history, art, culture and people. I was a history honours student and grew up in a family where academics and curiosity were very much a part of our lives. Musafiri felt like a natural extension of that part of me. It is my attempt to travel through a city I thought I knew, but with fresh eyes."

Musafiri is produced by Pushing Buttons Studios, the production house co‑run by Chadha and Fazal. It follows their previous collaboration, Girls Will Be Girls, which earned critical acclaim at Sundance and saw Chadha receive the John Cassevettes Prize at the Indie Spirit Awards in Los Angeles.
