Police say the woman returned to the establishment on two separate occasions in August, installing five covert microphones while Cha was engaged in private conversations with an acquaintance.
The first incident occurred on August 23, with a second alleged installation on August 29. When the woman returned to remove the devices, she was taken into custody, but prosecutors later declined to approve an emergency arrest, and she was released. She is now being investigated without detention as authorities examine the devices and determine whether any private dialogue involving Cha was captured.
Yongsan Police Station has booked the suspect under the Communications Secrets Protection Act, and her mobile phone has been seized for forensic analysis. Investigators are trying to ascertain whether the woman acted alone, how she obtained the equipment, and what her motive might have been for targeting the popular 29‑year‑old.
Cha Eun‑Woo first gained prominence as a member of the K‑pop group ASTRO before starring in dramas such as True Beauty, A Good Day to Be a Dog and Wonderful World.
