On September 25, 2026, Tamil sports drama Angikaaram will debut on the streaming platform Sun NXT, almost three months after its theatrical release on June 26, 2026. The film, which tells a story based on true events, follows the journey of an under‑recognized 200‑metre sprinter who fights for recognition and a chance to compete in the Commonwealth Games.
Directed by debutant filmmaker Thenpathiyan, the movie stars Kotapadi J Rajesh (credited as KJR) in the lead role of Aathiran Banumathi, a talented athlete from an oppressed background. Co‑stars include Sindhoori Vishwanath, Viji Venkatesh, Rangaraj Pandey, Vasundhara Kashyap and Mansoor Ali Khan. The production team features S K Prasanth, Ajith Baskar and Arun Murugan as producers under Swastik Visions.
Musical score is provided by Ghibraan Vaibodha, while A. Viswanath handles cinematography, Dinesh edits the film, and Lalgudi Ilayaraja oversees art direction. Action choreography is by Peter Hein, dance sequences by Sherif, and sound design by Sampath Alwar. Publicity and creative promotion were managed by Prathool NT and Beatrout, respectively.
The narrative centers on Aathiran’s struggle after being denied a spot in the Commonwealth Games, leading him to challenge the decision in court. The film explores the intersection of sport, justice, and the fight for recognition, highlighting obstacles that extend beyond the track.
Fans who missed the cinema run can now stream Angikaaram on Sun NXT starting September 25, 2026, offering a chance to witness this compelling story of perseverance and legal battle.
