Cinema VinesLegendary filmmaker SS Rajamouli is reportedly approaching the final stages of production on his upcoming feature, Varanasi. The film, slated for release on April 7, 2027, stars Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu in the lead role, alongside Bollywood icon Priyanka Chopra and Malayalam actor Prithviraj Sukumar, who plays the antagonist.
Sources indicate that the shoot has entered its last phase, with all scenes involving Mahesh Babu now being filmed. The production team expects to complete principal photography, including any patch‑work sequences, by the end of October. This schedule aligns with the director’s ambition to honor the April 7 release date—a first in his career, as he has traditionally pushed releases by a few days.
While shooting wraps, VFX teams are already working around the clock to deliver the high‑quality visual effects required for the film. If the post‑production process proceeds as planned, the team will also release six songs and commence promotional activities ahead of the theatrical launch.
Rajamouli has yet to begin any marketing push, stating that his priority is to finish filming. Once the wrap is confirmed, he intends to start unveiling the film’s music and other promotional material.
