Cinema VinesIndian filmmakers Abhishek Chaubey and Navdeep Singh have announced that their latest short film, Bhed, Bakri, Bhoot, will be available on YouTube on September 24. The film is part of Anurag Kashyap’s curated channel, Oh Short Flips, and marks the third release on the platform. Directed by Shivam Shankar, who also co‑produced the project with Ranjan Singh, the 12‑minute piece explores contemporary social anxieties through a series of vignettes set in a public restroom.
The story begins with a heartbroken brass band musician who scrawls a bitter note about his lover on a bathroom wall in a fit of anger. As he vents, other passersby add their own complaints, ranging from personal grievances to broader socio‑political frustrations. The chaotic collage of voices escalates until government officials intervene, highlighting how individual concerns can be swallowed by larger systemic forces.
Shankar has described the film as an “attempt to look at India without any filters,” noting that it captures everyday politics with a raw, unguarded perspective. He expressed gratitude to Chaubey and Singh for championing the project, as well as to the cast and crew for their dedication. The ensemble includes Vandana Joshi, Prasanna Bisht, Apeksha Iyer, Naseem Mughal, and Rishi Solanki, among others.
Both Chaubey and Singh praised the short’s narrative and direction. Chaubey said, “What I loved most about BBB is Shivam’s modern approach to the narrative and the fact that it is so enjoyable, yet so disturbing.” Singh added, “Bhed, Bakri, Bhoot is acutely observed, astutely directed, and insanely relevant to the times we find ourselves in.”
The film has already earned recognition on the festival circuit. It screened at International Kurzfilmtage Winterthur, IFFSA Toronto, Tirana International Film Festival, Roma Short Film Festival, Tokyo International Short Film Festival, Yellowstone International Film Festival, and the Best of India Short Film Festival. Awards include Best Editing at Tokyo, Best Short Film at IFFSA Toronto, and Best Indian Short Film at Yellowstone.
With its release set for September 24, viewers can expect a thought‑provoking exploration of modern Indian society, delivered through a series of stark, emotionally charged scenes that challenge audiences to confront the underlying tensions of everyday life.
