Cinema VinesIn a recent interview with the Hindustan Times, writer‑director Abhishek Pathak confirmed that the latest instalment of the Hindi “Drishyam” saga, titled Drishyam: The Conclusion, is a creative venture rather than a commercial pursuit. Pathak, who penned the script, emphasized that after the massive success of Drishyam 2 – which grossed ₹345 crore worldwide – the team deliberately chose a four‑year gap before launching the third film, spending two of those years in writing. He said the decision was driven by a desire to “stay relevant and ahead of what the audience might expect” and to honour the emotional connection fans have with the franchise.
The film marks a departure from the earlier entries, which were faithful remakes of the Malayalam original. Pathak explained that he did not want to repeat that formula: “I did not want to do a remake because it takes away from your craft. This film is written by me, so it can’t have the tag of a remake.” He added that the story is entirely original, with a different narrative that diverges from Mohanlal’s Drishyam 3 released earlier this year.
Featuring a cast that includes Ajay Devgn, Tabu, Shriya Saran and newcomer Jaideep Ahlawat, the film follows Vijay Salgaonkar, Devgn’s iconic character, toward a definitive conclusion. Pathak described the title as a clear signal that the saga is intended to end with this instalment. Yet, during the trailer launch, Tabu hinted that the story might not be finished, keeping fans intrigued.
When asked about the possibility of a Hindi Drishyam 4, Pathak was emphatic: “Zero! I will never write it.” He stressed that the film was crafted with “life and soul” and that financial motives had no place in its creation. The director’s stance reflects a broader commitment to storytelling integrity over box‑office calculations.
With the franchise’s roots tracing back to a 2015 remake of a Malayalam classic, the Hindi version has grown its own dedicated fanbase. Pathak noted that the contemporary audience is more prepared than ever, armed with theories and head‑canon, which poses a unique challenge: the film must deliver precise twists and shock elements to satisfy viewers. He believes that Drishyam: The Conclusion offers a satisfying closure while maintaining the suspense that has defined the series.
