Cinema VinesVeteran actress Udayachandrika, better known in the industry as Radha, has lodged a formal police complaint against her sister, actress Ambika Nair, and their brother, Mallikarjuna Kunjan Nair—who also goes by the stage name Arjun Nair. The complaint alleges that the siblings conspired to seize and misuse old cheques belonging to Radha, and that they attempted to defraud her of almost Rs 50 crore.
According to a statement released by the Greater Chennai Police Commissioner, Radha filed the petition on Monday after receiving an email alert from the IDBI Bank branch in Porur on 17 September. The bank had notified her that five high‑value cheques had been presented for encashment in Ambika’s name. The cheques were reportedly worth Rs 11 lakh, Rs 13.17 crore, Rs 27.73 crore, Rs 7 crore and Rs 1.79 crore.
Radha says she immediately asked the bank to halt the payments, arguing that there was no financial transaction or legally enforceable debt between her and Ambika that would justify the cheque encashments. She further claims that the cheques were written in the handwriting of her brother Mallikarjuna, who is reportedly facing financial liabilities under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) and is under pressure to pay a penalty following a 2025 FEMA case before the Madras High Court.
The actress accuses her siblings of “trespassing” into her room and taking the cheques with the intention of using them for their own financial needs. She says the cheques were part of a 50‑leaf cheque book issued in 2022 for her business, ARS Garden Studio, which was later renamed RR Gardens under GST regulations in January 2025. Because the older cheques were considered invalid, Radha had kept them aside as scrap in her room. She also kept five or six signed blank cheques in the same room for routine maintenance and salary payments during her frequent business travels.
Radha’s complaint states that she lives on the ground floor of her Valasaravakkam residence, where Ambika also resides and had access to her portion of the house based on their relationship and trust. She says she is now being prevented from checking her valuables and important documents—gold and diamond ornaments, property papers—kept in the same room. She has asked the police to investigate the alleged conspiracy and to take criminal action against her siblings under the applicable provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
