The conversation covered a range of topics, from her career to women’s health, but it was Haasan’s remarks about companionship and the institution of marriage that drew the most attention.
Haasan admitted that she does not oppose the idea of marriage, but she prefers to choose a partner on a daily basis rather than through legal formalities. “I really like companionship,” she said, adding that she has lived her life in a way that refuses to fit into a box. She explained that while she is traditional in some aspects and conservative in others, she has never felt forced into a particular conclusion. The actress expressed discomfort with the “paperwork with marriage, the lavish spending, showing” and questioned the purpose behind it all. “I enjoy that my partner and I pick each other everyday, but not because of the paperwork,” she clarified, noting that her fear of the institution is not rooted in shaming but in the excesses that often accompany it.
Haasan also mentioned that she has come close to marriage before, but the experience did not frighten her when the pressure increased. She stated that the idea of “big spenders” bothers her and that she prefers to give back to charity instead. The actress hinted at her openness to adoption and expressed a desire to become a mother in a biological way, describing it as an extension of herself. She confirmed that she is currently single and concentrating on her work and personal growth, following an amicable split with artist Shantanu Hazarika after four years of dating in 2024.
Her parents, veteran actors Kamal Haasan and Sarika, were married in 1988 and later divorced in 2004. They welcomed another child, Akshara, who has also pursued acting. The two sisters were raised by Sarika after the divorce. Haasan’s recent film work includes a leading role in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s 2025 ensemble movie Coolie, which featured Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Sathyaraj, and Rachita Ram, with cameo appearances by Aamir Khan and a special number by Pooja Hegde. The film grossed ₹518 crore worldwide but received lukewarm reviews.
