The court’s directive came after a lawyer filed a petition contesting the increased fares, prompting the judiciary to scrutinise the paperwork that authorised the rise.
During the hearing, the court examined a memorandum issued by the state’s film and entertainment authorities that had sanctioned the higher prices. It found that key details—particularly the requirement that a portion of the additional revenue be deposited for the welfare of workers—were missing from the memo. The court referred to GO‑77, a government order that permits ticket price increases for movies with budgets exceeding Rs 100 crore, provided certain conditions are met.
As a result, the court left the decision on whether to withdraw the memo to the Principal Secretary of the Home Department and instructed the authorities to reassess the approval. The next hearing is scheduled for October 6, meaning fans of the film will have to wait for a final ruling before the release.
Fans of Nani, who have been eagerly anticipating the film directed by Srikanth Odela, have expressed mixed feelings. While the movie’s promotional campaign and unique setting have generated strong buzz, the potential price hike has raised concerns among moviegoers planning to see the film in theatres.
With the release date approaching, the High Court’s intervention adds another layer of scrutiny to an already highly anticipated Telugu blockbuster. The outcome of the review will determine whether the ticket prices can remain at the higher level or if they must be adjusted to comply with the conditions outlined in GO‑77.
