Cinema VinesCelebrity chef Ranveer Brar is set to take on a new role as a biryani chef in an upcoming UK‑based feature film, a project that is slated to begin shooting early next year. Brar, who has already appeared in the 2022 series Modern Love Mumbai and the 2024 thriller The Buckingham Murders, will portray a character who travels from India to Saudi Arabia, opens a restaurant in his daughter’s name, and eventually moves to England.
Brar told reporters during a visit to his hometown of Lucknow that the film reflects a broader shift in how food is portrayed on screen. He explained that food stories have evolved from simple recipes to travel content, reality shows, short films and social media reels, and that the “food‑fiction” space remains largely untapped. “There are so many stories in our culture that revolve around food. In the coming times, I see a lot of stories being made around food,” he said.
In addition to the feature film, Brar has recently completed an 18‑minute short titled Rampher Ki Kulfi, which follows two kulfi‑makers in Lucknow’s Old City. Directed by Archit D. Rasstogi, the short has screened at international festivals, including the Mumbai International Film Festival in June 2026 and the International Film Festival of South Asia in Toronto. The short also features Bhawana Pandey.
Brar highlighted classic Indian food films such as Bawarchi (1973), The Lunchbox (2013), Daawat‑e‑Ishq (2014) and Chef (2017) as early attempts at food storytelling, but noted that such projects are still rare. He urged young writers and filmmakers to explore food‑centric narratives and expressed a willingness to collaborate on future projects.
Beyond film, the chef is preparing a new book on tandoor cooking, which has already gone into print, and a celebrity reality show titled Yess Chef for YouTube. He also announced plans for a new season of MasterChef India, expected to begin production in December.
