Cinema VinesOn Tuesday, the Central Crime Branch arrested a former employee of granite magnate R Veeramani after he was found to have withheld key evidence from the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) investigation. The arrest follows the 84‑year‑old industrialist’s own detention on August 29, when he and two associates were taken into custody following the tracing of a child survivor.
Actor‑politician Kamal Haasan reacted to the latest development, urging a “justice without mercy” and condemning what he sees as a cover‑up by powerful figures. In a note posted on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote that the Veeramani case has “exposed the extent to which unscrupulous individuals masquerading as prominent figures can go.” He praised those who brought the truth to light, saying they deserved gratitude for standing up “undeterred by the power of money.”
Haasan added that the “long arm of justice must reach out without mercy” to all involved and warned that such an incident must never recur. The call for relentless accountability comes alongside similar statements from actress‑politician Khushbu Sundar, who declared her anger “absolute, unequivocal and uncompromising” over the alleged use of wealth, political clout and media influence to bury the truth. She demanded that the case be fully investigated and that no one be allowed to escape justice.
The case began last year when police received video footage allegedly showing Veeramani forcing a minor to perform sexual acts. A closure report was filed earlier this year citing insufficient evidence, but a Special POCSO Court rejected the report on August 19 and ordered a fresh probe. The August 29 arrests followed the survivor’s identification and subsequent tracing. The former employee’s arrest on September 22 came after police discovered video evidence on his phone, leading to charges of possessing evidence and failing to report it to authorities.
Police sources indicate that the investigation is also scrutinizing alleged financial transactions involving certain police officials, political personalities and media representatives linked to the granite baron. The case has drawn widespread attention from public figures and activists, all demanding transparency and a swift, impartial judicial process.
