Cinema VinesDhanush has confirmed that his highly anticipated Tamil action‑thriller OM, which stars the actor alongside Mammootty, Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela, will no longer hit screens on its originally planned October 16, 2026 date. The film, directed by Rajkumar Periasamy and backed by Wunderbar Films and R Take Studios, is set to feature music by Sai Abhyankkar and is based on real‑life events, though the full storyline remains under wraps.
In a statement posted on X, Dhanush explained that the decision to postpone was made in respect of two major releases scheduled for the same period. He noted that superstar Rajinikanth’s film is slated for October 15, just one day before OM, and that Suriya’s film will also occupy the Diwali release window. “Out of immense respect for him, we have decided to postpone the release of our film, OM, to a later date,” the actor wrote, adding that “big films should have a mutual understanding and respect each other’s decisions, keeping the larger welfare of the cinema and industry in mind.”
While the new release date for OM has not yet been announced, Dhanush promised that fans will be informed “very soon.” He also mentioned that the film will not be part of the Diwali lineup this year, citing the already confirmed release of Suriya’s movie as a factor in the decision.
The cast and crew of OM have recently been celebrating a string of National Film Awards. In July, Dhanush and Mammootty, along with director Rajkumar Periasamy and editor R Kalaivanan, celebrated their wins on the set of OM. Mammootty received the National Award for Best Actor for his role in Bramayugam, while Dhanush was honoured with two awards at the 72nd National Film Awards: a Special Mention for Best Actor for his performance in Captain Miller and Best Tamil Film for his directorial venture Raayan. Rajkumar Periasamy also took home the Best Director award for Amaran, and Kalaivanan won Best Editing for the same film.
In a post‑award note, Dhanush reflected on the significance of his third National Award as an actor and his milestone as a director, describing the experience as unforgettable. Meanwhile, Mammootty’s son Dulquer Salmaan shared a playful Instagram caption teasing a potential fourth award for his father, sparking light‑hearted comments from fans.
