Vir Das clinches third International Emmy nod; Fool Volume takes home comedy honor

Indian comic‑actor Vir Das has earned a third nomination for the International Emmy Awards, this time for his Netflix stand‑up special Fool Volume. The comedian announced the news on Instagram on Wednesday, thanking fans for their support and expressing gratitude for the recognition. The nomination places Fool Volume among a strong field that includes Division Palermo Season 2, Man vs Baby and Old Dog, New Tricks in the comedy special category.

Das’s journey with the Emmys began in 2021 when he was first nominated for Best Comedy for Vir Das: For India. He followed that with a win in 2023 for Best Comedy for his Netflix special Vir Das: Landing, a victory that tied the British series Derry Girls Season 3. In 2024 he made history again by becoming the first Indian host of the International Emmy Awards ceremony.

Premiered on Netflix on July 18 last year, Fool Volume was filmed across Mumbai, New York and London. The show traces Das’s personal experience of losing his voice before his biggest career moment, turning that silence into a self‑aware comedy journey that tackles silence, self‑doubt and the rediscovery of joy. He described the nomination as “wonderfully strange” and noted how the special grew from a period of silence into a global conversation about Indian comedy.

In a heartfelt Instagram caption, Das wrote, “Ummmmm 🇮🇳❤️🙏 An International Emmy Nomination. Our third for India. This fool thanks you.” He added that seeing a show that began in silence travel so far was surreal and thanked Netflix, his team and everyone who helped bring the special to life. He reflected that the third nomination “is something I never imagined when we made the first one, so I’m just going to enjoy the fact that the fool keeps getting louder.”

Vir Das’s fifth Netflix special marks him as the first Indian comedian to reach that milestone. The special has also received praise from Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan, who called it “the best stand‑up show ever,” a sentiment Vir Das shared on Instagram, thanking Roshan for his support and for shining a light on his work.
