Cinema VinesActor Manav Kaul burst into excitement when he learned that Real Kashmir Football Club had been nominated for an International Emmy Award, a moment that unfolded while he was in Paris. The news arrived just minutes before their interview, and Kaul immediately began messaging the team to congratulate them for their hard work.
Kaul said he first received the nomination through a congratulatory message from a friend. "I just got a message and someone congratulating me, and I said, why are you congratulating me? He said, oh, because your series is part of the International Emmy Awards. My God, such a feeling," he recalled. He then texted director Mahesh Mathai, who initially thought Kaul was joking until the actor proved the announcement was on the official Emmy website.
With only two Indian projects—Vir Das’s stand‑up special “Fool Volume” and Real Kashmir Football Club—selected for the awards this year, Kaul described the nomination as a “huge win‑win for India.” He praised the series’ powerful storytelling, noting that he felt it deserved more recognition from the start. "I feel it’s a personal win, seeing that I always felt that this project did not get its due credit and it deserved much more viewership than what it got," he said.
Kaul also reflected on the inspiration behind the story, mentioning a BBC documentary that had previously covered the same subject. "I remember that BBC has done this as a documentary over this whole story. So I thought that if someone has to make this story, I would be so happy to be a part of it," he added. He expressed gratitude for the team’s effort, calling the project a “real Kashmir story” that is both amazing and deserving of appreciation.
As the nomination buzzes through Paris, Kaul remains hopeful that the series will reach a wider audience, celebrating the recognition that has finally come to the hard‑working cast and crew behind Real Kashmir Football Club.
