Cinema VinesAyushmann Khurrana has taken on a daring role as a Pakistani spy in the upcoming spy‑comedy Udta Teer, a film that promises a mix of espionage, comedy and patriotism. The trailer, unveiled in Mumbai on Wednesday, shows Khurrana’s character, Bilal Ahmad, suffering a memory loss accident that leaves him convinced he is an Indian operative, setting the stage for a series of chaotic misunderstandings.
At the launch event, Khurrana expressed no hesitation in playing a Pakistani agent, noting that the script demanded a straight‑face performance amid the film’s absurd situations. He called the role “the most difficult character” because he had to maintain composure even when the surrounding chaos tempted him to laugh. “It is the most difficult character because things were happening around him. I had to have that straight face, though there were moments when I felt like laughing, but I couldn't,” he said.
Opposite Khurrana is Sara Ali Khan, who was drawn to the film’s unusual premise. “When I heard the story, I so wanted to be part of this world. It is a unique and fresh film. The character is not like my real self, and hence it was exciting for me to do it,” she told reporters. The film also features an ensemble cast that includes Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Suhail Nayyar, Gulshan Grover, Raghubir Yadav, Supriya Pilgaonkar, Smita Tambe, and the late Mukul Dev, whose posthumous performance is a highlight.
Debutante director Akash A Kaushik, who also wrote the script, has been praised by Khurrana as the “brain child” behind the story. The film is produced by a team that includes Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain. Udta Teer is slated for a theatrical release on October 9, promising audiences a fresh take on the spy genre with a blend of humor and heart.
