The courtroom drama‑thriller “Pooja Meri Jaan” received an ‘A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on September 15, marking it as her second film to earn this rating after 2018’s “Love Sonia.” The 117‑minute feature, which runs for 1 hour, 57 minutes, and 32 seconds, will debut on the streaming platform Zee5 on Friday, October 2, bypassing a theatrical release.
Thakur’s filmography to date has largely consisted of wide‑appeal projects that have been cleared with ‘U’ or ‘U/A’ certificates. Earlier this year she appeared in the romantic “Do Deewane Seher Mein,” the mass‑market Pan‑India action “Dacoit” alongside Adivi Sesh, and the comic caper “Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hai” with Varun Dhawan and Pooja Hegde. “Pooja Meri Jaan” therefore stands out as a deliberate shift toward more mature content.
The film stars Huma Qureshi and Vikram Singh Chauhan opposite Thakur and is produced by Dinesh Vijan of Maddock Films. Vijan’s studio has already released another ‘A’ rated film this year, “Cocktail 2,” making “Pooja Meri Jaan” Maddock’s second consecutive adult‑certified project.
In related CBFC news, the board issued two separate censor certificates for “The Vvaan,” a film starring Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia, after it was discovered that the original certificate omitted the film’s submission of audio description (AD) and closed/open captions (CC/OC) for accessibility. The CBFC corrected the oversight quickly, issuing a fresh certificate that included the missing details while keeping the runtime unchanged.
CBFC Chairperson Shashi Shekhar Vempati described the dual certificate situation as a “technical correction to the same Certificate.” While the board’s CEO, Rajendra Singh, did not respond to a request for comment, the incident highlights the board’s attention to compliance with accessibility guidelines in theatrical releases.
