Ryan Murphy Confirms Glee Reboot Script; Original Cast Ready to Return

In Los Angeles, creator Ryan Murphy confirmed that a script for a potential reboot of the beloved musical comedy drama "Glee" is already in hand, and most of the original cast members have expressed enthusiasm about returning. The show, which aired on Fox from 2009 to 2015, followed the lives of the New Directions glee club as they competed in the show‑choir circuit while dealing with personal challenges.

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Murphy said, "Well, funny you ask, 'cause I just finished the script an hour ago." He added that he, along with co‑writers Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan—who penned the first two seasons—had written a new script and had spoken with around ten original cast members. "It’s very sweet, and they all had a lot of questions, but they all were very enthusiastic about the idea," he explained.

Lea Michele, who portrayed Rachel Berry throughout all six seasons, told E!News that she would be happy to return. "I love 'Glee.' I will always love 'Glee.' I love Ryan Murphy. It just holds such a special place in my heart for me… I will follow Ryan wherever he goes," she said.

Murphy, who recently launched a new season of his anthology series "Monster" with the Netflix original "The Lizzie Borden Story," noted that while the script is ready, the team has yet to read it. "So I don't know, we'll see. I vowed to myself that I wanted to write a couple of them to see what people think, particularly the cast, 'cause we were very close when we were making it," he remarked.

The original "Glee" lineup also featured late Corey Monteith, Naya Rivera, Dianna Agron, Matthew Morrison, Jane Lynch, Heather Morris, Chris Colfer, and others. Murphy’s extensive portfolio includes "The American Horror Story," "Scream Queens," "American Crime Story," "Feud," and "The Shards."
