Kollam Sudhi family awarded ₹1.77 crore; Kottayam MACT delivers verdict

The Motor Accidents Claims Tribunal (MACT) in Kottayam has awarded the family of the late Malayalam actor and comedian Kollam Sudhi a compensation of approximately ₹1.77 crore for the fatal road accident that took his life in 2023. The tribunal, presided over by Judge Prasoon Mohan, set the principal amount at ₹1,41,09,840 and added interest at 8.5% from the date the claim was filed, bringing the total to the reported figure. New India Assurance Company, named as the third respondent, was instructed to deposit the sum into the court within 30 days.

The compensation will be shared among Sudhi’s wife Renu, his mother, and his two sons. Renu Sudhi, who has remained in the public eye since her husband’s death and even appeared on Bigg Boss Malayalam Season 7, is also currently undergoing cancer treatment. She has been open about her battle with breast cancer and the chemotherapy she is receiving.

The tragic incident occurred on June 5, 2023, when the car carrying Sudhi and other entertainment personalities collided with a pickup van at Panambikkunnu in Kaipamangalam, Thrissur, while returning from a program in Vadakara, Kozhikode. Several other television figures, including Binu Adimali, Ullas Aroor, and Mahesh, were injured in the crash.

Kollam Sudhi was a familiar face on Malayalam television, known for his roles in comedy shows such as Comedy Festival (Season 1) and Star Magic. He entered cinema with his debut in Kanthari (2015) and later appeared in films like Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan, Kuttanadan Marpappa, Theetta Rappai, Vakathirivu, An International Local Story, Kesu Ee Veedinte Nadhan, Escape, and Swargathile Katturumbu.

While the tribunal’s order has been announced, the detailed contents of the ruling are yet to be released. The decision marks a significant moment for Sudhi’s family, offering financial support after the loss of a beloved entertainer.
