Sparsh Shrivastava taps Bollywood legends for Bhugol; Govinda, Salman Khan, Madhuri Dixit inspire new season

Sparsh Shrivastava’s portrayal of Bhugol in the second season of Dupahiya goes beyond the usual small‑town dreamer narrative, weaving in a rich tapestry of Bollywood nostalgia that the actor says has shaped his character’s journey into newfound fame. Shrivastava revealed that the character’s love for iconic film stars and classic movies has been deliberately integrated into the storyline, giving Bhugol a distinct personality that reflects the actor’s own cinematic influences.

In particular, Shrivastava highlighted Govinda, Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit as key inspirations for Bhugol’s mannerisms and wardrobe. He explained that a mandir sequence in the season two trailer was modeled after a memorable scene from Raja Babu, where Govinda’s character expresses deep affection to his mother. “There’s this moment in Raja Babu, I think, where he goes to his mother and says, ‘Itna pyaar diya tune mujhe, maa,’ so I was just trying to channel that feeling,” Shrivastava said. He added that Bhugol also wears a jacket reminiscent of Salman Khan’s style in Maine Pyar Kiya and incorporates elements of Deewaar, while Madhuri Dixit’s influence shines through in the character’s “launda naach” routine.

Speaking about the dance sequence, Shrivastava recalled a personal memory from a 2010 dance reality show where choreographer Saroj Khan awarded him ₹100 notes for good performances. He shared that during the filming of the launda naach for Dupahiya, the choreographer Kruti handed him a ₹500 note, a gesture that moved him to tears. “This time, when I did that shoot, Kruti came to me and gave me a ₹500 note, and I was so emotional,” he reflected.

Directed by Sonam Nair and produced by Salona Bains Joshi and Shubh Shivdasani under Bombay Film Cartel LLP, Dupahiya Season 2 continues the story from the first season with returning cast members Gajraj Rao, Renuka Shahane, Bhuvan Arora, Shivani Raghuvanshi and Yashpal Sharma, while newcomer Dinesh Lal Yadav (Nirahua) joins the ensemble. The new season will premiere exclusively on Prime Video on October 1.
