Actress Rakul Preet Singh has responded to recent reports that the Income Tax Department conducted searches in Mumbai as part of an investigation into alleged financial irregularities within the film industry. The searches, carried out on September 28, targeted roughly twelve locations connected to Singh, her father‑in‑law, producer Vashu Bhagnani, and Panorama Studios, which is linked to producer Kumar Mangat Pathak.
In a statement issued by her representatives, Singh denied any involvement in illegal foreign remittances or the suspected irregularities. She insisted the searches were unrelated to her and emphasized her long history of tax compliance, noting that she has been paying taxes since she was 20 years old. “I am not involved in any kind of illegal foreign remittance in personal capacity or on behalf of any production house,” she said.
Singh also addressed rumors about undisclosed assets, explicitly stating she does not hold any benami property—whether in India or abroad—and that she has never received property as a gift. “I would also add here that I do not hold any Benami property on behalf of anyone anywhere in the country or abroad,” she added, underscoring her principle of refusing expensive gifts.
She criticized what she described as sensationalised coverage by both online reporters and mainstream journalists, calling for accurate reporting and the retraction of any false or speculative claims. “I urge all those who published these false, malicious and speculative reports to retract them and clarify the facts,” Singh said, adding that commercial pressures should not compromise factual integrity or damage an individual’s reputation.
Singh’s statement comes amid a broader probe into film financing practices, with authorities reportedly looking into how production houses manage funds and whether they comply with tax regulations. The actress’s firm denial of any wrongdoing and her appeal for responsible journalism highlight the high stakes for public figures embroiled in legal investigations.
