Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2019 project, Inshallah, had generated buzz when it was first announced, with the director set to pair Alia Bhatt and Salman Khan in the lead roles. The collaboration, which would have marked the first time Bhansali worked with both stars, fell through after Khan reportedly withdrew just before filming was to begin.
Since then, Bhansali has moved on to other projects, most notably Gangubai Kathiawadi, which starred Bhatt and earned her a National Award for Best Actress. The filmmaker and the actress are now reunited on a new venture, Love And War, which also features Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal. The film was originally slated for release this year but has been pushed to January 21, 2026.
According to a Mid‑day report, Bhansali and Bhatt are considering reviving Inshallah after Love And War hits the screens. However, the revival is not a straight re‑take of the 2019 version. The storyline is expected to stay largely the same, but the script is being reworked to give the film a fresh approach.
The male lead for the reimagined Inshallah remains undecided. Earlier speculation suggested Shah Rukh Khan could replace Salman Khan, but a source quoted by the report said that no casting decisions would be made until the script is finalized. The director has indicated that the story might even seek a younger actor, depending on how the new script unfolds.
Meanwhile, Love And War has already unveiled character posters featuring Bhatt, Kapoor and Kaushal. The film’s release has been rescheduled to early 2026, and it has already attracted attention for its high‑profile cast and the potential for record‑setting theatrical rights sales.
